Trivia Theme Night

Adopt a Stuffed Kitty

Well we went to a Theme Trivia Party.  What a great idea for winter fun and it kept the kids and their grandma busy planning all week.  We picked cats as our main theme but added other pets to accent the entire theme.  The kids made adoption certificates for each of the pets and both old and young had fun coming over to adopt a "kitty".

Cute Little Strawberry Mice

These were so cute I couldn't believe it.  They were one of my favorite things the kids made.  And mice and cats seem to go together.
Kitty Cupcakes

Not only did they make cupcakes from scratch but they decorated them so cute.  Paws and faces.  I like this idea a lot as if you have a lot of kids participating in preparation each one can decorate a cupcake or two their own way.
Kitty Cucumber and Cream Cheese Sandwiches

These were so good.  They mixed up dill and cream cheese to make a filling and then used diced up black olives, dill for whiskers and a piece of tomato for a nose.

A Fish Bowl

Although the fish bowl aesthetically didn't quite meet our standards.  It was very popular.  We put tongs inside the bowl so we would not get a bunch of hands.  None of the Swedish Fish were swimming but the Nerds added color as gravel.  We thought about making blue jello for the fish to "swim" in but passed on the idea.

Meow Mix Cat Chow

We used dog and cat food bowls (new and washed) to put  a cereal season mixed. This was great to snack on during the game.

Okay, these didn't fit the theme too well but they are so cute and look just like dog biscuits.

Then everyone decided we needed costumes!

Who knew there were these powerful cat t-shirts!

I think theme parties can be fun although they take a bit of planning. I remember as a kid participating a couple times in theme activities where everyone made food from a different culture.  It was so fun.  If you have done a theme party before or might do one soon, please comment and let us know what your them was or what you would pick as a theme.

Ice on Tree Branch

There seems to be a lot of icy and snowy weather right now, and sometimes that means no school. Get the camera out and make some traditions.  My two youngest kids make one good snowman every year and pose with it.  I hang all these pictures on the wall and they love it.  Last year my mom insisted I enter a few of my photos in the fair, so one of the photos I entered was a tree branch from an ice storm.  My kids love taking nature pictures too. Challenge your kids to take photos that they can enter in their local city or county fair. There are lots of fun things to do when the weather keeps you home for the day.  Ask your kids and see what they would love to do for the day.

If you never have watched  Watch Know Learn Videos click on the link and find all types of weather related videos to watch.  A few are even interactive.  You can even make your own weather videos. Phones now have the capacity to make videos.  If you look at one of my previous blogs on Stop Motion Studio it lets you take it screen-by-screen shots and turn them into a video.  Most phones also have a recording options under the camera icon.  If your kids like to sketch, they can even get out their sketch pad and draw.

Don't forget the hot apple cider or hot chocolate.  Make the best of a day at home with your kids.  If you are lucky like we were last week and get real snow, the type you can sled on lacking that ice that interferes with a good sledding experience.  We have a steep driveway, so we sled during the day and night and it was really fun.
